Passport & ID photo sizes, in pixels, for 12 countries

Every country specifies ID photos in millimeters or inches, and every application portal rejects uploads in pixels. Here's the conversion, at the standard 300 dots per inch, so you can crop once and be done.

The sizes everyone asks for

Two families dominate: the square 2×2 inch (600×600) and the rectangular 35×45 mm (413×531). If your country isn't listed, measure the spec in mm, divide by 25.4, multiply by 300 — that's your pixel size.

• United States — passport: 2×2 in → 600×600 px
• United Kingdom — passport: 35×45 mm → 413×531 px
• Schengen visa — 35×45 mm → 413×531 px
• China — visa: 33×48 mm → 390×567 px
• Japan — passport: 35×45 mm → 413×531 px
• India — passport: 2×2 in → 600×600 px
• Canada — passport: 50×70 mm → 591×827 px
• Australia — passport: 35×45 mm → 413×531 px

The rules that actually get photos rejected

Size is the easy part. Rejections come from the other rules:

• Background: plain white or off-white, no shadows, no texture
• Head size: typically 70–80% of the frame height
• No glasses glare, no hats, neutral expression
• Recent: taken within the last 6 months

A note on dpi

Portals that print will check dpi; portals that only display usually don't. Exporting at 300dpi covers both. Our presets export at exactly these pixel dimensions, which is what the dpi metadata is computed from.
