Why every marketplace wants a white background (and how to get one in 3 seconds)
Amazon's style guide says main images must have a pure white background. Etsy doesn't require it, but scroll any category and notice what the top sellers do. eBay, Walmart, Google Shopping — same story. This isn't fashion, it's conversion data.
What the white background actually does
- Removes the noise between the buyer's eye and your product
- Makes a 40-product catalog page look like one coherent shop
- Signals 'professional seller' before anyone reads your reviews
- Survives every marketplace's image re-cropping and zoom overlays
You don't need a lightbox anymore
The 2015 workflow: buy a lightbox, iron a white sheet, fight the shadows, still end up in Photoshop. The 2026 workflow: shoot on any surface with decent daylight, drop the photo into an AI background remover, pick the white swatch, download.
The edges are the part that used to take the skill — fur, glass, fabric fringe. That's exactly what the AI is good at.
Batch tip: shoot the whole catalog first, then process 20 at a time. EasePic Pro's batch mode turns an afternoon of editing into one coffee's worth of waiting.
Two details that separate 'okay' from 'listed'
First, fill the frame: marketplaces want the product at roughly 85% of the image. Crop tighter before you de-background, not after. Second, pure white means #FFFFFF — not 'light grey wall'. Pick the white background swatch explicitly and the export is exactly that.
Reading is great. Doing it in 10 seconds is better.
